Wir sind ein Team. Wir sind ein Team.

Lieber Robert,

Deine Nationalmannschaft

Dear Robert,

It is not easy to put on today evening, the football boots to go out on the lawn, do 90 minutes with what you have loved so much. Your death for us is still omnipresent. He has made us all speechless, stunned, helpless. We were stunned when we got the unbearable news. We were not able to take our grief into words. We were not able to play a few days later, attacking football. We could not simply be business as usual. We all need to realize this moment of calm in order to what has happened. Properly understood, we will perhaps never.

We have long sat together and thought of you. We have been silent together, cry together and searched for answers together, but in fact found only new questions. Agonizing questions of "why. Why could not we help you? Why could and you did not want us talking about your problems? Why is it in our competitive, not possible in our competitive society, to express fear and disease?

It is for all of us a painful thought that you yourself have felt alone, lonely and need, even if you were with us. That you have to have so often had the feeling that they can lose much more than just a football game. That for you so much more at stake than any other of us. Your death is so bleak. But we will do everything we can to carry on in your mind, play good football to be successful. And our best to ensure that stigma and prejudice have no place in football.

You will be missed. On the way to the stadium, in the cabin, in the penalty area. You will fail us, because you were an outstanding goalkeeper. But rather, because you were a remarkable man. We are now playing for Germany, we play for the fans. But we play, especially for you. For a good friend, whose death we are all still a little bit closer together.

We are a team. And you will always be a part of this team.

We have long sat together and thought of you那段,真是心如刀割...

Wir sind ein Team...
